Temples & Communities

New Dvaraka Dhama, in Los Angeles, California, was Srila Prabhupada's first world headquarters and then later, the Western world headquarters. The temple building itself has survived many earthquakes over the years, and many of the buildings surrounding it are owned by or inhabited by local Hare Krishna community members, so there is a strong sense of community surrounding this neighborhood.

Adjacent to the temple is Govinda's restaurant, and above this is the gift shop that has even been patronized by Hollywood celebrities. The temple also hosts a large "Festival of Chariots" every summer, the Ratha Yatra celebration that parades down to Venice Beach for a popular local festival.

This is also the home of the North American BBT (Bhaktivedanta Book Trust) division.
